Day 2
After disembarking the ferry, we head West away from Santander before slipping off the main road and settling in. We then pass through several small, typical Spanish villages, soon arriving at the foothills of the Picos de Europa and the roads become tremendous! Long sweeping bends soon tighten up into switchbacks as we climb up past a dam to a lovely viewpoint with uninterrupted views of the stunning mountains. We pitch our first camp on the outskirts of Potes. The Banner photo above is our campsite! The attached picture was taken at Mirador Piedrasluengas we will visit this view point on our way to Potes.

Days 3 and 4
Leaving Potes, we ride the N-621 past the Stag and onto Riaño, an iconic favourite route for many bikers. Ride it and you will see why! Twisty bends for miles with simply spectacular views. We will of course stop for the obligatory deer photo! Following the Cantabrian mountain range we head west through 5 national parks before arriving at a lovely lakeside camp we visited last year. Picture attached.
Portugal today and after crossing the border, we hug the Douro river, on a little traveled route, which marks the split between the 2 countries. We are likely to have the endless twisty roads to ourselves. Our destination is to a favourite campsite of our guests. Maria's! Expect a warm welcome, cold beer and fabulous home cooked food.

Days 5 and 6
2 fantastic days ahead, Firstly we ride the Serra Estrela mountain road to the highest point in Portugal at over 6,500 feet, dropping down the mountain through stunning scenery and almost endless views.
N2 to Faro, the N2 runs through central Portugal top to bottom. The bottom half where we are riding is generally regarded at the best of the N2.
We follow the N2 all the way to Faro for a 2 night hotel stop, included in the price.

Days 7 and 8 and 9
Day 7, halfway through the tour. Rest day today, an opportunity to get some washing done, recharge batteries and relax! Or indeed time to explore Faro, or the beach, or both!
Time to start heading North, we stay in Central Portugal making our way through some lovely scenery and roads to rejoin the N2, but NOT the part we have already ridden! More N2 to enjoy, for over 100 miles, By the time today ends we will have completed over 300 miles of the N2, from Faro to Vila Nova de Poiares. We head back to Maria's for more friendly hospitality and home cooked food.

Days 10 and 11
After a home cooked breakfast, we leave Maria's campsite and head into the foothills of Serra Estrela, a barren landscape in parts, we came this way to experience the Portugal's answer to 'Stelvio Pass'. This road has bends; lots of them...bend after bend. In our opinion, it cannot be compared as, unlike the Stelvio, this road drops down through a forest, has barely any other vehicles, even fewer coaches and caravans, making it virtually traffic free!
We cross back into Spain and ride the flat lands back towards the Picos De Europa, with the distant mountains getting ever closer.
We return to the campsite near Potes we first stayed at on arriving in Spain.

Day 12 and 13
Ride to the ferry, but which route?!
Too many to choose from! Down Hermida Gorge perhaps?
Or we could ride 'Hairpin city' and up to the view at Catalinas?
Back through the forest and down past the dam?
We can decide on the day!
Day 13 the ferry crossing home.
As with the outbound crossing, there is entertainment, cinema, whale and dolphin watching, a bar, beauty treatments and food options.
